GREGORY, Jr., Charles R.  -
Charles R. Gregory, Jr. passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Miami Valley Hospital after 92 years of life. His wife of 50 years, Dorothy, preceded him in death. Born and raised in Benham, Kentucky, at 17 Charles was sent by his mother, Sarah, to Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, OH to learn aircraft maintenance. After completing his training, he enlisted in the Navy for several years to repair military planes and later attended Knoxville College in Knoxville, TN where he met Dorothy, his wife. He finished his studies for his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Dayton.
Charles and Dorothy settled in Dayton, OH and began a lifelong fellowship with Peoples Community CME Church, which was newly established at the time. Charles was a Lifetime Emeritus member of the Steward Board, where he held the offices of Bookkeeper, Treasurer, and President. He served as advisor of the Membership and Evangelism Committee, sang in the Inspirational Choir, Male Chorus, and the Mass Choir. He also served as a Bible School Teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday School. Charles worked as a mailman and was a Procurement Officer for many years at Wright Patterson Airforce Base, specializing in purchasing flight simulators for pilots. He was the President of his Neighborhood Watch program.
Charles loved the Lord, his family, travel, camping, and woodworking. He is survived by two loving daughters, Rosemary Harmon and Cynthia Gregory; four devoted grandchildren, Patrice Harmon, Erica Seidenstricker, Yvonne Hollman, and Kenneth Harmon; his brother, Maurice D. Gregory Sr.; his nephews Dr. Maurice D. Gregory, Jr. (Millie), Dr. Michael Gregory, Dr. Joleen Gregory; his nieces Sharon Greene, Bernetta Monroe (Gary), Patricia Marshall, and many other friends and relatives.
Charles’s own words reflect his good humor, positive outlook on life, and unwavering faith in God, “I was married to a wonderful wife had two wonderful daughters and four wonderful grandchildren. God blessed me to have a good life.” He will be sorely missed.
His funeral will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Peoples Community CME Church, 2525 N. Gettysburg Avenue, Dayton, Ohio. Viewing will be held from 9-11AM. The family will receive friends from 10AM-11AM. Services will begin at 11AM. Interment West Memory Gardens.
