LANDER, Derrick

Derrick Lander age 59, was the third child born to Marion and Annie (Moon) on November 18, 1958. He resided in Dayton, Ohio for many years and graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Class of 1978. He received a basketball scholarship to Alcorn State University, Lorman, Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, 1982. He worked at the State of Ohio Department of Taxation for 30 years until his retirement. He was a faithful and dedicated member of Little Rock Missionary Baptist Church where he served as church Treasurer for over 35 years. He enjoyed working with and mentoring young people. Derrick loved the gospel singer Shirley Caesar and the Cleveland Cavaliers Basketball team.


He departed this life on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. Proceeded in death by his mother and father (Marion and Annie), Brother Thomas Moon.


He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children, Daughter Aleisha Lander (Mother, Donna Goode) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Son Reginald Lander (Mother, Davetta Wilkinson) of Dayton, OH. Three sisters: June (Rev. Michael) Bradfield, Lois Lander and Wanda Lander. One Brother Keith Lander; Special nieces: Tamika and Nikia Searcy. Great-Nieces: Juanta and Jasmine Searcy. Great-Great-Niece, Claire Searcy-Allen. Godmother, Flossie Gravely; Aunt, Lee Ella Shine; Special cousin, Joyce Thompson and family of Akron, Ohio. Special Friends: Sheila Benning, Donna Hopson, Michael Hopson, Rev. Richard Hopson, Otha Watson, Lyle Cole, Morton Branham, Alan Hoskins, Jeff Hoskins, Bradford Cubbie, James Clover, Marquis Sansom, host of cousins, many other special family members and friends.


Funeral services 12:00 p.m., Monday, February 5, 2018 at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 4200 Germantown Pike. Pastor Lloyd D. Hayes, officiating. Pastor Norman Bradfield, Eulogist. Visitation with the family 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Interment West Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Little Rock Baptist Church-Education Scholarship Fund.
