MCCANN, Viola Bernice Johnson

MCCANN, Viola Bernice Johnson, 101, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2017 in Dayton, Ohio. She was born on December 3, 1915 in Lexington, KY and was the daughter of the late Alfred Johnson, Jr. and Alberta McEwen Johnson. She was the first of six children, and her siblings were Wesley, Ruth, Fred Lee, Walter and Richard Johnson. Her paternal grandparents were Alfred and Laura Burton Johnson. Her maternal grandfather and step-grandmother were George Vincent and Mary Lee McEwen. She was the widow of Charles McCann, Sr. and was preceded in death by her five siblings; three sons, Charles McCann, Jr, Nathan Wesley McCann, and Alfred Allen McCann; a step-daughter Charlesmarie McCann Maxberry; two sons-in-law, Harold Whatley and Recardo Roberts.

Viola accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, and she was the oldest member of the Shiloh Baptist Church, Lexington. After moving to Dayton, Ohio she attended the Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church with her daughter Anna. She was affectionately known as Mo'er by her family and their friends. She was a stay-at-home mom who loved and took very good care of her children and her oldest grandson. Mo'er had a beautiful smile, she was modest with a sweet and humble spirit, a great sense of humor, and a very special way of caring for those she loved in times of illnesses. She truly loved her family, and in her latter years she would always ask, “When is the family reunion?”, because she didn't want to miss seeing her kinfolks. She spent her last years in Dayton being cared for by her faithful daughter, Anna Mae and her grandson, Darrell Whatley.

She will be truly missed, and she leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Anna Mae Whatley, Dayton, OH; Dr. Vivian Carol McCann (Dr. Lamont) Gholston, Louisville; Linda Louise McCann (Rev. Van) Kentz, Nicholasville; Bonnie Novella McCann Roberts (Rick) Godfrey, Bellefontaine, OH; a special grandson, Ronald Arthur (Dorethea) Jones; 17 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 9 step great-grandchildren, 15 great great-grandchildren, six step great great-grandchildren, and 3 great great great-grandchildren.
