ROBERTS, C. Deane Williams, born January 31, 1948 to Rufus Edgar Williams and Alice Mary Williams in Eclectic, Alabama. She passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 6, 2018 in Orlando, FL. Deane moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1953. She graduated from Kiser High School in 1966 and later earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the field of business from Wright State University and Central Michigan University respectively. Deane worked at AT&T, Dayton Power and Light, and Defense Finance Accounting Systems, from which she retired in 2007. One of Deane’s proudest accomplishments was her military service. After her children were born, she made the decision to serve her country in the United States Air Force Reserve for 21 years, where she obtained the rank of Sr. Master Sergeant. Deane accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend David Revere. She was a faithful member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in numerous capacities including the Usher Board and Mission Ministry. Deane believed in serving mankind and ensuring that peoples’ basic needs were met. As a result, she was instrumental in starting the Emergency Response Team and the Holistic Health Ministry at St. Luke. She was also very active in the community, volunteering for numerous organizations. Deane was an avid explorer and traveler, having visited six of the seven continents. She was also an avid line dancer, participating in several line dance groups. Outside of her military accomplishments, Deane was most proud of her family. She passionately and dearly loved her husband, children, siblings and extended family. She looked forward to attending her annual family reunion and was active in family reunion planning. Deane is preceded in death by Parents, Brother Marvin Williams, Five sisters: Marilou White, Emma Bates, Mary Alice Brown, Mary Odessa Bostick and Mabel Shepherd. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 45 years Benjamin F. Roberts, son Benjamin Eric Roberts (Hanover, MD); daughter Genessa Roberts Merritt (Marvin); two granddaughters, SaBrea Cowan and India Merritt. Three sisters Everlena Shepherd (Ezekiel), Geneva Beard, Marjorie Turner; one brother Comer Williams. Mother-in-law Mary K Roberts; Adopted children and grandchildren, J. Caprice Brown, Patrice Hodge, Chandra and Kennedi Hayes, dear friend Patricia Garrett. Deane is also survived by 18 sisters and brothers-in law, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and her dear St. Luke church family. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 2262 N. Gettysburg Ave. Pastor Renard D. Allen officiating. Visitation 9:30- 10:30 A.M. Interment Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society in memory of C. Deane Roberts.
