Herbert Leroy Carroll, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2019. He was born on October 11, 1928 to the late Herbert and Evelyn Carroll in Columbus, Ohio. Herbert received his high school diploma in the Columbus Public School System, undergraduate studies at Claflin University and a Master's Degree at Miami University of Ohio.
After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, he spent many years as an Administrator of Special Education in the Dayton Public Schools and retired as the Executive Director of Student Personnel Services in the Mansfield City Schools with 37 years of service. Additionally, he served as an adjunct professor at the Ohio State University, University of Dayton, and Wright State University as well as a staff member of the Ohio State Penitentiary Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center, and the Dayton Adult Probation Office.
He was a longstanding member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder for numerous years and most recently was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was an honorary life member of the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary Trustees and for 68 years, Herbert was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his wife Bettie (Willis) Carroll and brother, Charles Carroll. Herbert is survived by son, Herbert Geoffrey Carroll; daughter, Carmen Patrice Carroll Strong (Carl); (6) grandchildren, sister, Helen Wright and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
