Mary J. Gould, age 94 was born to the late William and Louisiana Cheeks. She attended Dayton Public Schools and worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital in the Nursery and later dedicated herself to being a homemaker. Mary was raised up in the church, baptized as a young girl and sang in the choir. During her later years, she attended church services with her daughter.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grand- mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was family-oriented and loved getting together with her siblings and parents. Her time was devoted to raising her children. She was warm-hearted, funny, giving, strong-willed and a great listener. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, cleaning and being around family.
On Tuesday, September 24, 2019 Mary J. Gould transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Fred Gould; (1) son, Hoyte Gould, Jr.; (1) daughter, Charlotte Ball; granddaughter, Melissa Rice; (5) sisters, Virginia Cox, Phyllis Cheeks, Margaret Pope, Carrie Baxter and Sarah Boles; (2) brothers, George “GB” and Bill Cheeks.
Mary leaves to cherish precious memories and celebrate her life; (1) loving daughter, Anna “Susie” Kirby and (1) loving son, Curtis (Dorothy) Gould; (4) beloved granddaughters, Lolita (Donald) Stevenson, Zolita (Ken) Fisher, Shonita Riley and Myishia (Bigg) Garner; (2) beloved grandsons, James Greene and Dante' Gould; Many great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren and great, great, great-grandchildren; (2) sisters, Inez Baxter and Gertrude Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and friends.
