Mr. Ray Oglesby was born June 12, 1939. He departed this life Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Siena Woods Nursing Care Center. He was a native of Emmanuel County, Georgia and had resided in Dayton most of his life.
A member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, graduate of Dunbar High School, class of 1957 and retiree of the U.S. Postal Service with over 40 years of service. Ray was the organizer for the class of “57 for over 60 years
Ray was crafty, quite the historian, loved to write and considered himself a poet. Another favorite pastime was "playing his numbers”.
He was preceded in death by his parents Arzie and Elizbeth Oglesby; brother James Oglesby; lifelong friend Pastor David Jones Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory fiancée Susan Brady; uncle James Oglesby; step-son Malcom Oglesby of Trotwood; dearest cousins Clifford, Angeline and Byrul Handberry of Garfield, Georgia, Genitha Handberry of Queens, New York, David Oglesby McCain of Stanford, Connecticut, Rita White of Duplin, Georgia, Angela Walker, Rosa M. Burroughs of Garfield, Georgia, and Juanita Burroughs of New York. Ray’s devoted cousins, Romon (Edward) Clark, Michael (Shelia) Buchanan and Arnita Peavy; special cousins; Trishae Y. (Gregory) Painter, Tracy L. (Alexander) Rascionato and Jamie R. (Eric) Burns all of Tampa, Florida. A host of nieces, other cousins, relatives, and friends including dearest friends; Tommy Birdsong, Delores Lark, Marilyn Merritt, Howard Moore and Robert Rakestraw.
