Mrs. Ada Ruth Brown, age 86 of Dayton, OH was born in Stewart, MS on August 16, 1937 to the late J.P. and Mary Lane. She departed this life peacefully on Thanksgiving Thursday, November 23, 2023.
Ada accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord & Savior when she was a child and maintained her commitment to Honor & Praise Him all the days of her life. In her living she was a faithful servant at Piney Grove M.B. Church (MS), Emmanuel M.B. Church (OH), and for the last twenty years Mount Moriah M.B. Church (OH). Her sowing was speaking of Jesus' promises and encouraging all to know and accept Him.
Ada was the eldest of thirteen children and as a young girl could be described as sweet and commanding. She helped care for her siblings and taught them how to properly clean. For fun her and Aunt Ivrdean would pretend to can foods in the tree house at Mama Myrtle’s.
In 1958 Ada married Lee Russell Brown; her only love, provider, and confidant. They enjoyed traveling for gospel singing and visiting family. From this union five children were born. Her children were her blessings and she wanted the best for them - she loved, provided, and prayed for them always. Ada’s most important job, which she proudly and lovingly worked until her passing was a homemaker. She created a home where her family felt peace and love; and all were welcome to the table to be fed. Once her children were older, she spent ten years working outside the house at UD College in food service.
Ada was well known for her cooking and baking; she made the best dressing, sweet potato pie, and peach cobbler both sides of the Mississippi. She enjoyed going to church, traveling, talking on the phone, spending time with her family but most of all she loved shopping! If she couldn’t make it to the mall, she always had QVC and HSN. She kept up with the trends (a true fashionista) and loved church hats. Ada was wise and giving, she had the ability to make everyone feel like they were special – mainly because if she loved you - you were.
Ada was preceded in death by her parents J.P. Lane & Mary Lane; her children Douglas Brown, Michael Brown, and Sharon Herring; her son-in-law Bobby Burton; and her siblings Oliver Lane, Albert Lane, J.B. Lane, Arthur Lane, and Jenelle Lane-Lytle.
Ada leaves to cherish precious memories her husband of 66 years Lee R. Brown; children Robert (Marie) Brown, and Janice Burton; her siblings Bettie Ann Bledsoe, Willistine Turner, Rena Robinson, Myrtis Holmes, Harry Lane, Ruby (Charles) Byrd, and Linda McNeal; her grandchildren Quinton Brown, Domini (Stanley) Upton, Tronica (Kyle) Johnson, Michael Brown, Charmaine (Jayson) Blunt, Renotta Brown, Rodstin Herring, Preston (Kelly) Brown, and Miracle Brown; 26 great-grandkids; her great friend Freda Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
