Benjamin Jones Obituary

Benjamin Jones was born to Oliver and Myrah Etta Jones on August 27th 1942 in Slidell Louisiana.

The eldest of eight children, Ben spent his formative years in Slidell surrounded by a loving family including aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who made up his community.

After attending St. Tammany Parish High School, Ben attended Southern University. In 1963, bringing with him the "NEVER QUIT", "GO THE EXTRA MILE", "ALWAYS HAVE PRIDE IN YOURSELF", teachings of his university professor father and strong homemaker mother, Ben enlisted in The United States Air Force. After Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base Texas, Ben was sent to The United States Air Force Academy. This was the beginning of a journey which saw him rise from the rank of Airman Basic to Senior Master Sergeant in his proud and eventful 27-year career.

In addition to his career, Ben became a loving husband to his wife Christine Jordan Jones with whom he shares many happy years.

A dedicated Deacon at Harvest Grove Baptist Church, he served in many capacities from Sunday school teacher to Financial Manager. Working with Pastor Jackson and Deacons Turner, Johnson and Coleman, they were instrumental on the building of the new addition to the church.

He was a loving father to his children Stephen, Christopher, Angela and Cherri, and a mentor to any seeking his advice.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Myrah Etta, Brother Calvin, Sister Elizabeth and Mary Ann Fesler mother of Stephen, Christopher, and Angela.

He is survived by his loving wife Christine, his siblings Wendell, Margie, Barbra, Albert and Alfred and his children Stephen, Christopher, Angela (Ian) and Cherri (John).
