Betty J. Conner

Betty Julia (Brown) Conner transitioned to be with the Lord September 19, 2024, after a nine-year hard-fought battle against Alzheimer’s/Dementia.  She was a princess born to farmers, Robert and Maggie Brown (Patrick) in America’s Black Belt region, Livingston, Alabama, on September 30, 1936.

She placed God and her family first. Especially kind, compassionate, giving and practical. She poured her heart into helping those in need, volunteering for various organizations, church boards, committees, and singing in the church choir.  

She was known for baking signature German Chocolate cakes and sweet potato pies and had a passion for gardening and music as it was in her blood. She loved sports—especially basketball. She was a phenomenal forward at Sumter County Training School helping lead several high school tournaments in the mid 1950's. She attended Knoxville College in Knoxville, TN then relocated to Dayton, Ohio and met her husband. She worked part-time at Miami Valley Hospital as being available for her children was a priority. She later dedicated over 20 years as a bus driver for Dayton Public Schools, retiring in 2000.

Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Maggie (Patrick) Brown, husband, Arthur L. Conner Sr., brothers, Robert Jr., and Isaiah Brown, great grandson, Terry C. Johnson, II, 3 sisters-in-law, 2 brothers-in-law, 2 nephews, one niece, and special childhood best friend, Beulah Cornell.

She is survived by daughter, Bonita Carroll (Michael), sons Vincent Conner (Renee), Anthony Conner, and Gregory  Conner; stepsons, Arthur L. Conner, Jr., Klaus D. Singleton; grandchildren, Mercedez Singleton, Tia J. Anselme (Ahmad), Michael A. Carroll, Cameryn Conner, Bryan Carroll, Gregory I. Conner, and Amaya Conner; great-grandchildren, Ahniya Anselme, Amare Anselme, Alayah Anselme and Ahbree Anselme; sisters-in-law, Susie Brown and Lula Arnold as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
