Betty Williams Obituary

Betty Faye Smith Williams was born on July 22, 1939, in Kelton (Union County), SC to the late Bennie and Willie Mae (Holley) Smith. She was the seventh of eleven children: four brothers and six sisters. Preceding her in death were her parents;  husband Nathaniel Williams; son Nelson Danny Smith and eight  siblings: Victor (Bug) Lindsay, Vernon Smith, Columbus Smith, Mittie Ruth Smith, Queen Elizabeth Jeter-Davis, Maceo “Macy” Smith Hardy, Erlean Smith Baker, John William “J.W.” Smith and Jerry McCray Smith, a nephew reared in the home.

Betty accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Bethel Baptist Church in Kelton (Union County), SC.

She attended the public schools of Union County, SC and attained a GED certificate from the Division of Adult and Continuing Education, Dayton, OH

Betty participated in the migration of Black African Americans from the South in the 1950’s who were in search of better opportunities.  She was able to find employment within General Motors Corporation, Vandalia, SC spanning 30+ years.

She was, until her health declined, an active member of the Church of God Sanctified for 60+ years. Betty was active in Sunday School; Bible Study; participated in Mission work; served on the Culinary Committee and a devoted tither and financial supporter of the Church.

She loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and as one of His servants, was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She also loved her immediate and extended family and friends. As she was looking forward to returning home to South Carolina, God in His infinite wisdom, presence and power dispensed an angel to Miami Valley Hospital on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 around 5:28pm in the evening with a message for Betty that it was time for her to join Him in her eternal and heavenly home instead.

Betty will be greatly missed and comfort is found in the fact that, as Jesus sits on the right hand of Father God, He extends an invitation to everyone to join Him also in heaven where we can see her again. We know not the day or the hour, but His  Word tells us that we must be ready, as well, when the summon comes.

She peacefully went home to be with the Lord leaving to cherish fond memories two daughters Karen Denise Lynch, Dayton, OH and Angela Shirelle Burgess, Spartanburg, SC; grandsons Shawn (Kristina) Smith and Terrence Smith, Dayton, OH; Darren Nunn, Cincinnati, OH and Andre’ Burgess, Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren Gracious Smith, Jasmine Smith, Jada Smith, Jai’Lin Smith Ter'Ryeon Howard and Jordan Cammon, Ter’Ryeon Howard, Dayton, OH; sisters Dorothy Smith Pruitt and Vivian Smith (John) Teamer, Spartanburg, SC; sister-in-law Darlene Williams-Smith, Bronx, NY; nieces reared in the home Barbara Kerns, Spartanburg, SC and Sharon Wiggins, Charlotte, NC;  special and devoted nieces, Linda Gail Parrish, Sheila (Min. Timothy) Wilson, Barbara Williams Golding and Valerie Mills, Dayton, OH and a host of other relatives and friends.
