Bobbie Elam Obituary

Bobbie Elam was born November 20, 1948, in Augusta, Georgia to the late Abron Elam II and the late Minnie Johnson Elam. He was baptized at an early age at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

Bobbie Elam believed in the importance of receiving a good education. He graduated in 1966 from Lucy Craft Laney High School in Augusta, Georgia. He graduated from Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University) in Tuskegee, Alabama in 1970. He also received a Master’s degree at Central Michigan in 1990. He was a member of Dayton Tuskegee Alumni where he served as Chaplin and the chairman of the scholarship committee.

Bobbie Elam also believed in hard work. He enlisted in the United States Navy from 1970 -1976. He began working at Inland (GM later Delphi) from 1976 -2008.   Bobbie enjoyed talking and meeting people. After retirement, he was a financial Adviser at Primerica for over 25 years. He touched so many lives and helped so many families gain financial independence.

Bobbie Elam believed in family. He met Mrs. Maurita Graves Elam at Tuskegee Institute (Tuskegee University). They were blessed with one daughter and two sons.  They demonstrated the importance of faith, family and forgiveness.

Deacon Elam had a strong faith in the Lord. He joined Rockhill Baptist Church in 1986, where he served as deacon, member of male chorus, and member of the senior choir. He taught us that it was more of a blessing to give than to receive.

Bobbie enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spoiling his eight grandchildren. He died peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at 77 years of age.

Bobbie was preceded in death by parents, Abron Elam II and Minnie Johnson Elam; two siblings, Abron Elam III and Patricia Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Maurita, daughter Katrina King (Ronnie) of Riverview, Florida, sons Rodney Elam (Julia) of Rockville, Maryland, and Bobby Elam (Kashonna) of Ankney, Iowa. Grandchildren: Ronnie Micah King, Andrew Robert King, Rachel Michelle King of Riverview, Florida; Julianne Lollay Elam, Robbie Mitchell Elam, and Josephine Elise Elam of Rockville, Maryland; Elijah Lamont Elam and Bailey Lynn Elam of Ankney, Iowa.  Siblings:  Mary Elam Godbolt of Fairborn, Georgia, Michael Elam, and Alphonsa (Tonya) Reeves.
