Carlton Harold Johnston of Huber Heights, Ohio, was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on March 18, 1947, the firstborn of Peirce L. Johnston and Janelle L. Johnston. He passed away on September 12, 2024.
After graduating from Linden-McKinley High School in Columbus, OH, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in service and afterward, he furthered his education by attending Sinclair Community College, Park College, and Wright State University, where he studied Criminal Justice Administration and Criminal Justice and Social Problems.
TSgt Carlton Johnston served 20 years as a Law Enforcement and Correction Supervisor in the United States Air Force. During his civilian career at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, he became Deputy Warden of Operations at the Northeast Pre-Release Center.
He was very active in the Prince Hall Masonic Family, serving as Past Master of Edward Dugger Jr. Military Lodge #123, Past Patron of Ruth Chapter #104, Order of the Eastern Stars, Grand Inspector General of Miami Consistory #26, A. A. S. R., Past High Priest of Lincoln Chapter #2, Royal Arch Mason, and Past Potentate of Akbar Temple #41, A.E.A.O.N.M.S.
He was a Paid Up for Life (PUFL) member of General Daniel “Chappie” James American Legion Post 776.
In his recent retirement, he showered his love on his wife and his precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren with excursions to Disney World, whitewater rafting, and the like.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon K. Johnston; his siblings La'marr Johnston Cole (NY), Gregg (Sheri) Johnston (ID), Jere Johnston (OH), Vallery Johnston McClary (MI), Alonzo Henderson (NY); his children Gary Johnston (London, England), Steven Johnston (Huber Heights, OH) and Kimberly Johnston (Fairfield, CA); his bonus children Christa Overton (Hamilton, OH) and Darren Beverly (Huber Heights, OH); his grandchildren Payton Lackings, Chloé Johnston, Steven Johnston II, Darren Beverly, Collin Overton, Noel Overton, Aniya Hunt, and Maleah Hunt; and his great-grandchildren Nyla Thomas, Nicolette Lackings, Xavier Beverly, and Victoria Penda.
