Carrie Booze Obituary

Carrie Lee Booze, a remarkable woman who graced this world for 102 years. Born in Sargent, Georgia, Carrie was a pillar of strength and love, whose life was a testament to resilience.

Carrie graduated from Howard High School in 1940 and began her career in Camden, New Jersey, working at the Campbell’s Soup Company. However, the call of family brought her back to Newnan in 1944, where she devoted herself to caring for her ailing father. She later found employment in writing insurance.


In 1946, she welcomed her only son, Kenneth Dawson Booze, after marrying the love of her life, the late Robert Booze.

In 1949, the family moved to Dayton, Ohio. As a longstanding employee of the United States Postal Service, she made history as the first Black woman to work the service desk. Carrie was a passionate advocate for civic engagement and never missed voting until the 2024 election, embodying her belief in the power of every voice.

Carrie was a member of Mt. Enon Baptist Church and the Parliament Club. She leaves behind her cherished son, Kenneth Booze (Carolyn); 3 grandchildren Deron Booze (Tina), Deon Booze (Late LaTonya), KenEsha Booze; 5 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren. Beloved niece Bridget Dawson (Grandville) and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was fondly referred to as Mom, Grandmother, Auntie and Nannie

Carrie was preceded in death by her parents Almond & Colista Dawson, siblings, husband, and great-grandson Amir.


But her spirit will forever be celebrated as a devoted wife, mother, sister, neighbor and friend.
