Catherine L. Yancey, age 87, of Dayton, Ohio, was peacefully called home on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Catherine was born on September 17, 1933 in Newark, NJ, to the late Partryce Blake and christened at St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Asbury Park, NJ. Catherine married James Hudgens in 1954 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and had three children, the late Janice White (Gary), Joyce Hudgens (Cleveland), and James Hudgens II (Jennifer). Catherine later married I. Victor Yancey in 1973, and together raised a blended family with Victor's children Kimberly Yancey, Allyson McAllister and Jonathan Yancey.
Catherine was an emergency room nurse for more than 40 years and was an amazing cook and exceptional hostess to many friends and family in her home. She was a faithful member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women for many years. She was a faithful member of the Silhouettes of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
Catherine was preceded in death by her brother Robert, twin sister Rose Blake. She is survived by her children-Joyce, James, Kimberly, Allyson & Jonathan, her beloved niece Roxanne Robinson, as well as her grandchildren George, Jerryson, Carl, Trevor, Christopher, Joshua, Jessica, Jack, Lisa, Liza, and the late Jonathan McAllister and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at Saint Margaret's Episcopal Church in Dayton on Saturday September 25, 2021 at 12 noon. Visitation from 11:30am until time of service. Inurnment of the ashes at West Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5301 Free Pike, Dayton, OH 45426, in Catherine’s name.
