Darlene Wright Obituary

A Time to Be Born

Darlene Wright, the sixth of nine children born to the late Rozzie and Mattie Lou Eubanks, was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on October 18, 1950. She passed away at the age of 75 on December 24, 2025.

A Time to Learn

Darlene was a proud graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1968. She earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Tennessee State University and later obtained her Master’s degree from The Ohio State University. She subsequently earned her Library Media Certificate from Wright State University.

A Time to Love

In 1973, Darlene married her high school sweetheart, Carl Wright. Together, they had two beautiful children, Katrina and Courtney, and later became proud grandparents to Andrew. Darlene and Carl were married for forty-three years before his passing in 2016. In addition to her devotion to family, Darlene had a deep love for her many friendships, travel, and the arts.

A Time to Educate

Darlene taught sophomore English at Jefferson Township Senior High School for thirty years before transitioning to the role of Library Media Specialist, where she remained until retiring after thirty-six years of service. Throughout her career at Jefferson, she also served as a Student Council and Muse Machine advisor and volunteered at various school events. She played an influential role in the lives of her students, becoming a positive role model and a favorite among the student body.

A Time to Serve

In 1970, Darlene was initiated into the Alpha Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., at Tennessee State University. She later joined the Dayton graduate chapter, Beta Eta Omega, where she served as President, Vice President, and Graduate Advisor, as well as chairing and co-chairing numerous committees. She was also honored as Soror of the Year. Because of her love and commitment to the sorority, Darlene chose to become a Life Member and, in 2020, after fifty years of service, earned the distinguished status of Golden Soror.
