David Kirkland Obituary

Mr. David Kirkland, at the age of 74, returned to Allah on May 18, 2026.

David was a native of Dayton, Ohio. He attended Roosevelt; until its closure, then he attended and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1970.

David was preceded in death by his parents Virginia and Mansfield Kirkland Sr.; three brothers, Kenneth, Glenn, and William; five sisters, Karen, Janet, Patricia, MaryAnn, and Ann Foster.

He leaves to share his precious memories: three brothers, Mansfield Jr. (Kathy); Keith (Donna); and Gene (Doris). David’s children and grandchildren: Michael Conyers (stepson) his children, Mitchell and Michael Conyers; David Conyers ”Red Conyers” (son); and Lawana Conyers (genuinely loved daughter) her children, Aiyanna and Paul Black, and LaMoura Thompson. Also, his fiancé and devoted lifelong friend Cherri Randolph-Ash. Best friend Darrell Fuqua, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

David had been clean and sober for twenty-nine and a half years thus he became a mentor and guide for many in their journey to sobriety. His love of travel enabled him to visit many different meetings, which was a joy for him to share and be encouraged by those whom he met. He was well loved and known in the Recovery community and was known as Big Book Dave since he carried one everywhere and encouraged everyone to use it.

David had various jobs throughout his life but the most important was as a head strong dynamic businessperson. He always said his priorities in life were his sobriety, his God, and his money. But he was also an avid sports fan and lover of jazz which he inherited from his father.

David lived his life with integrity, morals, prayer, and his golden rule of peace and love. Rest in peace, our love.
