Deloris Parker Obituary

Deloris Burton Parker at age 84 departed this life on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at her home in Trotwood. Born on March 4, 1940 in Winchester, KY. Deloris was the daughter of the late George Scott Burton and the late Gertrude Strode-Burton. She accepted Christ at an early age and worshipped with her family at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, KY.
After graduating high school, she attended Kentucky State University. She moved to Dayton where she began a forty-year career in contracting with the U.S. Department of Defense. She first worked for the Defense Electronics Supply Center (DESC) and retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It was while working at Wright Patt, Deloris met her husband of 49 years, Frank Parker. Together they raised three children.
The Parker home in Fairlane Park was a hub of love and happiness that radiated throughout the neighborhood. Deloris was beloved among Fairlane kids and adults alike for her kindness and generosity. She loved to cook and there was always food to share with visitors who were greeted by the beautiful garden beds that surrounded her home.
Deloris was passionate about African American history, arts and culture and shared that love with her family, friends and church. To her church family at Valley Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, she was a devoted lay leader and volunteer. She served as the choir director and finance manager. Often, she was the last person to leave the church, which resulted in her eventually gaining keys to the building.
She was a woman who was guided by her faith and actively lived it. Her maternal love knew no bounds. She was called by her faith to extend that love to those who were in need. She was a sister, aunt, mother and grandmother to many with no connection to the Burton-Parker family tree.
Deloris is survived by her three children Anthony W., Angela and Carla (Hakim), four precious grandchildren, Anthony M. (Jameka), Torrey (Tiffany), Donisha and Sydney, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and chosen family not tied by blood but by love. Five brothers Booker T. Burton, Scott Burton Jr., Jimmy Burton, Henry Samuel Burton, Booker and Douglas Thurston and three  Martha Walker, Alberta Dysart and Grace Webb, preceded her in death.
