Dorothy Jean Mitchell

Dorothy Jean Mitchell, 74, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on October 26, 2023, after a lengthy health battle. Dorothy was born on July 19, 1949, to the late Joesph and Rose Lee Howard in Bessemer, Alabama. She was a proud graduate of Roosevelt H.S. class of 1968. Dorothy earned an associate degree in nutrition from Sinclair Community College. Upon graduation, she began working at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a Dietician. Soon after graduation, her career advanced into Restaurant Management Industry at Sambos, Friendly’s, and Cassano’s Pizza. In 1994, Dorothy’s career transitioned, when she obtained employment at the Montgomery County Medical Society for 23 years before retiring in 2017.

Dorothy Jean Mitchell was a loving and devoted Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt and an amazing “Granny.” She was highly respected and cherished by all her grandchildren, family, and extended family. Dorothy loved the Lord and was a faithful woman who lived her life with no regrets. She loved family and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. Her love and caring heart will be missed. Her personality and loving smile will be forever cherished.

Dorothy Jean Mitchell was a faithful member of Northwest C.O.C. now known as Bold Believers C.O.C. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher and the kids easily gravitated to her loving spirit. One of her great successes was a play she wrote for the Ladies of the various C.O.C. Congregation. The success touched her heart and the heart of so many others.

Dorothy Jean Mitchell preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Mitchell, parents Joseph and Rose Howard; brothers, Anthony “Tony” Howard, and Michael J. Howard; sisters, Brenda Springer, and Tracy Howard-Mahmood: grandson Gregory Walker.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Clarissa Walker, Arlissa Jackson, Clarence “Fatcat” (Peaches) Jackson IV; stepdaughter, Angela Mitchell; stepmother, Sumothia “Pat” Howard; siblings, Joseph “JOJO” (Janeneice) Howard, William Howard, Edward Howard, Yvonne “Von” (Clancey) Brown, Shirley (Sylvester) Day, Deneen (Micheal) Lamar, Arnitra (Timothy) Reid, Aaron (Kristy) Howard, Melissa (Stanley) Marion, Angela (Abdul) Rehman, Garrick O’Neal (Bernadette) Howard, Rebekah Howard, Michael Love, Linda Howard; brother-In-Law, Willie Springer and Sister-In-Law, Cherrie Howard.  Grandchildren, Alicia Jackson, James “Jimmy” Dyer III, Crystal Trimble, Clarissa Walker, Lakeisha Garrett, Brandi Jackson, Clarence “LC” Jackson V, Shalece Mitchell and Deondre Mitchell. A Special host of Great-grandchildren and one (1) Great-great grandchild. Special friends: Barbara Butler and Julia Sanders.
