Erma Cooper Obituary

Erma S. Cooper, our precious mother entered into the gates of heaven on November 3, 2024 at the golden age of 92, to be with the Lord. She was born June 25, 1932 to the late Deacon McKinley & Bertha Melson in Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Cooper; son, DeWayne Cooper; brothers, Freddie, James, and Marvin Melson; sister, Willaleana Melson.

Erma worked for Dayton Public School as a paraprofessional in her earlier years and was an excellent advocate for people with disabilities. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar High class of 1951, and continued her education at Sinclair College.

She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age and she was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Ridgewood Heights where she sang in the Mass choir and led numerous songs. Erma was also a devoted member of the Mother’s and Missionary Board and she loved her church dearly and looked forward to attending every Sunday until her illness.

Erma leaves to cherish her beautiful memory with her sons, Samuel, Marcus, and Jonathan Cooper; daughters, Shari and Glenda; brother, Thurston (Shirley) Melson; She also leaves many grandchildren who loved her dearly, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends, and a grand-dog (Tiny). Mom taught us to be (my brother’s keeper) and to always take care of one another. No matter what, if your sibling has a problem, we all have a problem.

We the Super Coopers will always hold her in our hearts, and she will be missed immensely.
