Mr. Ernest Dean Jackson, aged 85 years 24 days, affectionally known to all as Ernie, was called to his eternal life on the late night of March 31, 2020 at his residence in Dayton, Ohio. He was born to Robert Leonard and Alice Irene Jackson on March 7, 1935 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Ernie was a caring and kind hearted man who found Christ at an early age before coming to Dayton, Ohio. When he moved to Dayton, Ohio he joined Corpus Christi Church and was a member until his failing health prevented him from attending.
Ernie, standing at 6’2, was a member of the United States Marine Corps, honorably discharging in 1952 at the rank of an E2 Private 1st Class Marine. He was assigned to the 4th Marine Corps Reserve and Recruitment district where he received numerous awards including the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the National Defense Service Medal.
Mr. Ernest Dean Jackson was united in Holy Matrimony with the former Ms. Phyllis Lloyd on September 25, 1990. On September 25, 2019, the celebrated 29 Years of marriage.
His hobbies included reading books and poetry, watching old cowboy shows and law enforcement movies. He was an avid collector of watches, knives and Indian jewelry. His favorite sports team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Ernie was a hard-working man as evidenced by the many jobs he has held throughout his lifetime including the Merchant Security Company and after 35 years he retired. As the inscription read on the retirement plaque...“Start of Watch 1984 ~ End of Watch 2019”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Alice Jackson; a sister, Ranita Tibbs and 3 brothers, Robert, Vernon and Dewayne Jackson; mother of his children, Mrs. Odessa F. Jackson; 2 furry companions, Baby Love and Louie.
He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife of 29 years, Phyllis Jackson; 1 son, Robert Jackson; 5 daughters, Kelly (Stanley) Harris, Lorna Change, Letitia Jackson, Christy Jackson and Hanifa (Shahid) Raki. 4 devoted step-children who loved him dearly, Kevin (Tracy) Adams, Jennifer (Lavan) Mayes, Michelle Adams and Jacinta Walker (special caregiver). He will also be missed by his 35 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
