Fred Leftrict Sr. Obituary

Fred Theodore Leftrict Sr was born May 9, 1932, in Richmond, Indiana, the only child of Fred Mason Leftrict and Alma Hall Leftrict. He passed away peacefully at age 88 in Silver Spring, MD on February 20, 2021.  Homegoing services were held February 27, 2021 in Washington, DC with final interment at the VA Cemetery in Dayton, OH.

Fred Leftrict Sr. is survived by his wife of 61 years Sylvia Ann Leftrict, his children Fred Theodore Leftrict Jr. (Linda), Denise Angela Leftrict, Wayne Robert Leftrict (Pamela); four grandchildren Brandyn Leftrict, Denisha Leftrict, Wayne Leftrict Jr., and Paul Leftrict; sister-in-law Roberta Maiden; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, stationed initially at Hill Air Force Base in Utah. His service took him overseas to Europe and Korea. He rose to the Airman First Class rank, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal during his four years in service to our country.

Fred retired in 1987 after 31 years from the U.S. Postal Service, where he rose to Director of Finance. He was the first African American to hold this position in the region, receiving media recognition for his accomplishments.

Throughout his adult life, Fred Leftrict was a friend, confidant, and a constant presence in his extended family and friends' lives. He was the leader and anchor of the family who always put the needs of others before his own. He never sought adulation for what he did, finding more joy in the happiness and achievements of those close to him. The family meal, where there was enough for everyone, always brought the smile to his face.

In 2015, Fred delighted his family and friends by taking the walk to become a Christian through Baptism at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio.

The Homegoing Service can be viewed on the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church YouTube channel until April 30, 2021.

After April 30, 2021, the service and obituary will be on the FredLeftrict.com website.
