Geneva Kate (Boozer) Olowoeshin was born in Atlanta, Georgia May 9, 1964. She was the youngest of four children adopted by Charles and Dorothy Boozer. She was the mischievous runt of the bunch and got in plenty of typical childhood trouble, but through all the complexity and tumult that came with her unique, unorthodox, joyous, and sometimes painful childhood, the indelible imprint of love, perseverance, endurance, resiliency, and forgiveness shaped her mind and heart and colored the choices she made in her life.
She attended Collier Heights elementary and later Frederick Douglas High School and was naturally gregarious and naturally rebellious all wrapped in a beautiful smile. She played the violin and loved the book “Charlotte’s Web" tremendously. She made a lot of friends and consciously chose to give attention to ones who were shy, looked down on, or ostracized for simply having a darker hue or who were just not part of the in crowd and had to scrap and fight their way through, much like herself. She also challenged the status quo and was not shy about cooking for or interacting with the homeless or, as a young adult, bristling at the fact that she had to pay taxes although her father served his country in two wars. She was empathetic to the pain and suffering of those addicted to drugs so much so that she worked with organizations in Atlanta in 1988 to have a parade for the kids who were so negatively impacted by the crack epidemic but were so often overlooked. She made it her crusade to do whatever she could to change someone's life for the better. This core belief was reflected in any line of work she undertook throughout her life because just as her parents saw in her, she saw in others the potential to be decent, if not great, if given the opportunity.
Between 1982 and 1993, Geneva was married twice and from those unions, bore four sons: Charles and Carlwin Boozer and Yusuff and Gabriel Olowoeshin. Geneva also became a baptized, practicing and faithful Jehovah's Witness in the late ‘80s. Even though she faced challenges and stumbling blocks, as we all do, she pushed to find the right road and to be content with choices that teach us how to live properly. She always strived to guide her sons that way and definitely did so by introducing and incorporating in their life regular Bible study and regular attendance to meetings at the kingdom hall so they could, at the very least, have a solid foundational knowledge on which to make choices that pleased God. In her ministry and through Bible studies, she followed Jesus’ command to preach the good news of God’s kingdom and interacted with and befriended countless people in the several congregations in the cities and states she lived in. Those included Atlanta, Georgia, St. Paul, Minnesota, Detroit Michigan, Dayton, Ohio, and Crestview, Ft. Walton Beach, Destin, and Shalimar, Florida. She found purpose and fulfillment in cultivating a relationship with Jehovah God.
The love she had and desire she had for people and for their lives to change for the better drove and compelled her to persevere in helping others develop, through Bible study and accurate knowledge, the kind of close relationship with God she continuously worked to fortify over the decades. Coming from a home where travel and vacations were a regular occurrence, Geneva loved to travel, she loved sports of all kinds, and had an incessant fascination with God’s natural wonders on earth, from the trees and their changing leaves to the sand and surf of beaches she visited. From the desert and the west’s wilderness to the cold and snow of the Midwest. From youth on, she loved and found solace in reading and writing. She actually became a published author in 2020 with the work “A Peachtree in the Projects", a book of poems, essays, pictures, and stories of her life as she saw and experienced it. Geneva never took life for granted and always enjoyed the company of and laughter with her family as well as with her spiritual brothers and sisters wherever she encountered them. Geneva Kate definitely left an unforgettable and powerful impact on everyone up until the very end.
