Geraldine Fostine Smith Obituary

On July 4th, 2020, at the age of 95 years old, Geraldine Fostine Smith passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short battle with Covid-19.  A longtime resident of Dayton, Ohio and native of West Virginia, Geraldine was well-loved and respected by all who knew her. Sadly, she outlived many of her close friends and family, but was honored to see in her life time, the first ever African American President, to which she saved every article.

Geraldine wore many hats in her long life. She worked many years at Kodak, but retired from General Motors after many years of service. She was also an accomplished Beautician that owned multiple hair salons during her life. When she was still physically capable, she volunteered at her Church, Harvest Grove, the Post Office, as well as spending summer activities with her great granddaughter.

She loved God her Church family and friends. She and her late best friend Helen Sims loved getting dressed to the nines, socializing and hosting parties for family gatherings. She was a true lover of nice clothes and shoes. She always took pride in her appearance until the end and was always known as a Sharp dresser.

Her love for her only great granddaughter, Devin, “Pinky Lee”, was immeasurable. She was able to attend and watch Devin celebrate both her High School and College Graduation. They spent many summers going swimming, dining, shopping, and laughing at one another over silly inside jokes.

Geraldine was predeceased by her husband Macon Smith, and by her only child Larry Smith. She is survived by her only grandchild, Kimberly McDonough, only great grandchild, Devin McDonough, and her loving daughter-in-law, Sandra Driggins-Smith who always made sure she had everything she wanted or needed during her years in the nursing home.
