Howard L. Moore Obituary

Howard L. Moore was born on February 12, 1939, in Dayton, Ohio, to Henry and Mary T. Moore. Affectionately known as "Sonny" by his family and "MO' Daddy" by his friends, Howard grew up in the DeSoto Bass Courts where he formed lifelong friendships and was admired by many.


He attended The Great Dunbar High School, serving as class president all four years and excelling in basketball, baseball, and track. He continued his education at Sinclair Community College, Central State University, and Central Michigan University.


Howard loved his family deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mary T. Moore, wife, Miriam V. Moore siblings Betty Johnson, Barbara Henderson, Mildred Williams, and Patricia Boddie, granddaughter Tiffany Jayne Moore, and lifelong friends Ray Oglesby, Princeton Lowe and Todd Stone.


He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Althea Moore, and his beloved grandsons Kevin Howard Moore Il and Samuel Isaiah Moore. Howard always wanted a daughter, and when Kevin married Althea, he felt he finally received the daughter he had longed for.


Howard served his community through Dayton Power & Light, Monarch Marking, and the City of Dayton Human Relations Council. His honors include serving as Mayor of Dayton for a Day (1957), Class E National Baseball League Champion (1952), Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Dayton Jaycees, Graduate of Leadership Dayton, and Outstanding Young Man of 1968.


Howard's legacy is one of strength, leadership, humor, and unwavering love for family and community.
