Ian D. Jackson Obituary

On August 13, 1974, Rena and David Bannister welcomed their son, Ian Dewitt Jackson, into the world. Guided by faith from an early age through his baptism at Shiloh Baptist Church, and shaped by his years at Belmont High School, Ian lived 51 meaningful years before his unexpected transition.

A dedicated worker throughout his life, Ian spent many years with Finishing Technology Inc. before continuing his long-term employment with Packaging Corporation of America. His commitment to doing things the right way—and doing them well—was one of his defining traits.

Ian leaves behind three daughters: Trinity Gregory; Tyra; and Iandia, as well as three cherished grandchildren given by Trinity: Kartier, Keoni, and Gianna Gregory. He also shared a meaningful bond with Erin Kozak and embraced three sons by heart: Anthony, Nikolas, and Tyce.

Faith played a central role in Ian’s life. He loved God deeply and remained spiritually grounded in the Word. Family and friends will remember his quiet strength, steady presence, and willingness to share his knowledge—sometimes passionately, whether others agreed with him or not. His natural ability to connect with people made him a source of wisdom, humor, and support.

Growing up, he was known by the nickname “RICE,” and in later years, many affectionately called him “E-DUBB.”

Ian is preceded in death by his father, David Dewitt Bannister, and his sister, Rosslyn Brooks. He is survived by his mother, Rena Bannister, who continues to hold him dearly in her heart. His memory also lives on through his siblings: David L. Bannister; Anthony Bannister; Judy Rolle; Stephanie Bannister; Kathy Storr (Bahamas); Sharon Proctor (Georgia); Micheal L. Bannister; and David Bannister (Dayton). He is further survived by his special niece Tanika (Florida), along with many loving nieces and nephews across the Bahamas, Dayton, Georgia, Louisiana, and Washington.

Ian’s family and loved ones will forever remember his work ethic, his laughter, his jokes, and the lessons and wisdom he shared so freely. His love for those close to him was unmistakable.

He also leaves behind special relatives, including Micheal Dixon and David Peebles, as well as a large extended family of cousins—so many that listing them all would stretch across states and countries. To many of them, he was undoubtedly the favorite.

“Love sweetens pain; and when one loves God, one suffers for his sake with joy and courage. He loves us infinitely, more than we imagine”
