Igran Isaac Sr., whose sunrise came on a crisp late-winter morning, December 9, 1929, was born in Lexington, Mississippi, to the late I.V. Isaac Sr. and Mary Jessie (Polk) Isaac. He was baptized at an early age at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Lexington, beginning a lifelong walk with God.
Igran received his early education in his hometown of Lexington, Mississippi. From a young age, he was known for having a strong work ethic, often helping his father and three brothers. The community admired I.V. Isaac Sr. for raising four hardworking sons—a legacy of dedication and perseverance that Igran carried throughout his life.
Igran welcomed his oldest daughter, Ola Mae, in Sunflower County, Mississippi. After leaving Lexington, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he lived with his Aunt Ella Simmons and cousin Sammy Simmons, along with his close cousin George Williams.
In 1952, he met the love of his life, Kellie Juanita “Sweetie” Wright. On February 28, 1953, they were united in marriage. From this union, their first child, Katherine Elaine, was born in Memphis. Soon after, Igran followed his parents and brothers to Dayton, Ohio, where his wife and daughter later joined him. In the years that followed, their family grew to include Igran Isaac Jr., Regina Renette, and Demetria Michelle, all of whom were born in Dayton, the city that became his home for the remainder of his life. He worked hard to provide for his family, building a career in truck driving and earning a reputation for excellence in everything he did.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His life was defined by hard work, faith in God, and unwavering dedication to his family. Igran and Kellie shared 58 beautiful years of marriage until her passing in 2011. Yet beyond his strong work ethic, it was his heart, humor, and presence that left the deepest mark.
Igran had an infectious smile that could brighten the darkest day, and a laugh that invited everyone around him to join in—truly living out the words of Proverbs 17:22: “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Joy, love, and jokes seemed to follow him wherever he went, making every gathering warmer and more alive. He had a special gift for making people laugh, feel welcomed, and at ease.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV) These words truly reflect the way Igran lived his life. He lived 95 beautiful, love-filled years. His sunset came on August 10, 2025, as he exchanged his earthly life for eternal life in the presence of our Lord, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. “For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:14 (NIV) We are confident that we will one day see him, and our other loved ones, again in the presence of our Lord.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kellie Juanita Isaac; his parents, I.V. and Mary Isaac; his brothers, William, I.V. Jr., and Murray; his son, Igran Isaac Jr.; and his daughter, Ola Starks.
He leaves to cherish his memory his three daughters—Katherine Isaac of Dayton, OH; Regina Isaac Webster (Dallas) of Dayton, OH; and Demetria Michelle McGee (Norvin) of Midwest City, OK; his daughter-in-law, Judy Isaac of San Jose, CA—as well as his 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.
True to the meaning of his last name, Isaac—“laughter”—he embodied joy, humor, and love. His smile and laughter will be deeply missed, but the memories of his kindness, work ethic, and spirited sense of humor will continue to inspire generations. His love, wisdom, and faith will forever remain a guiding light to all who knew him.
