James Calvin Sampson, Age 88 of Dayton, passed away peacefully at his residence on July 18, 2021. He was born in Laurel, Mississippi on November 13, 1932, the son of Plummer Sr. and Lurline Sampson. He moved to Dayton, Ohio as a teenager and attended Roosevelt HS. He would then meet and marry the love of his life, Helen Mary Smith and reside in Dayton for the remainder of his life - raising six children. He would then lose his wife, Helen, in September 1998 after 45 years of faithful marriage. After Helen’s death, he would re-marry Iva Daniels and was lovingly married to her for 16 years. He was a dedicated and longtime member of Germantown Pike Church of Christ where he served as an Elder and Treasurer. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving the US Army. He worked for Ohio Bell - and then AT&T for more than 40 years and then retired. Never happy with just “sitting around” during his much-deserved retirement, he began taking long walks at nearby Judge Arthur O. Fisher Park and then began working for Sinclair Community College and would retire there after 15 years.
He is survived by his children James Gregory and his wife, Karen, Tyrone and his wife, Joann, Tyree and his wife, Pamela, daughter Amy, Ivan and his wife, Angela, Dexter and his wife, Leslie, and stepson, Gary Daniels, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by parents, Plummer Sr. & Lurline Sampson, 1st wife Helen M. Sampson, 2nd wife Iva M. Sampson, sister Mazie Jones, brothers Plummer Sampson, Jr., Therman C. Sampson Sr, Ezell U. Sampson and Wiley Sampson.
