Janet Yvonne Joppy “JJ”, age 86, was born to the union of Joseph L. & Elgertha Connors in Dayton, Ohio on April 28, 1939. She was preceded in death by her mother Elgertha Connors in 1992, her 2 oldest sisters Norma Jean Finley in 1993, Winifred Connors in 1995, half-sister Delores Talley in 2025, and father Deacon Joseph L. Connors in 2004. She departed this life on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Hospice of Dayton.
Saint Janet graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957 and married St. Rhodie Joppy Jr. (deceased) from Rockville, MD on August 1, 1965. Two children were born of this union, Rhodie III and Janet Elgertha. They made their home in the Washington, D.C. area for nine years. They returned to Dayton in 1974, and Janet began working at General Motors in March 1976 and retired in January 2002.
Saint Janet was a member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ and was baptized in 1957. During her tenure with the church, she worked on Special Daughter, Baptism, and Pastor’s Table Committees. She was installed as Special Captain in April 1996, and sang in the choir for over 50 years where she held the position of Head Soprano for a number of years.
One of her past hobbies, when time permitted, was sewing church uniforms and making vests for the brothers in the church.
She was a devoted mother and leaves to cherish her memory, one devoted son Elder Rhodie M. Joppy, devoted daughter, Janet E. Joppy; two sisters, Rosetta Wood and Wanda Cameron. Godchildren, Evangelist Kevin Moore, Twyman Millerton, Adia, Aria and Aiden Clark. Five grandchildren, Christopher Malone, April Baskin, Mark (Allison) Joppy, Ashana Joppy, and Mikal (Fatimah) Joppy.
Great grandchildren, Steven Baskin, Nyla & Mia Joppy. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
