Jessie Mae Tann

 

A TIME TO BE BORN…Jessie Mae Moore Tann, was the 10th born to Deacon Fender & Mrs. Mariah Moore a family of 14 children on October 1, 1924. They preceded her in death as well as her (6) brothers (4) sisters and God Daughter Michelle Walker.

 

A TIME TO PLANT…a vine of her life was rooted in Hahira, Georgia, where she grew up. Jessie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Galatia Missionary Baptist Church.

 

A TIME TO LEARN...She was educated in the Lowndes County Public Schools and was a graduate of Hahira High School, Hahira, Georgia and attended Florida A & M College and Savannah State College.

 

A TIME TO LOVE…She cleaved to her God, and her husband William T. Tann who was the love of her life, who she was united in Holy Matrimony on December 18, 1944.

 

A TIME TO BUILD UP…While she attended Florida A & M, she was a teacher, she then relocated to Dayton, Ohio in 1949 with her husband where they joined Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist church under the late Rev. E. T. Britton. She worked at Miami Valley Hospital for 36+ years where she finally retired from in 2006. She volunteered for Montgomery County Board of Elections. She served as president of the usher board, superintendent of Sunday School, president of the nurses’ guild, president of the deaconess’ board and founder of the scholarship fund at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. She also was the first black to be accepted on the council of the PTA board at Washington Elementary School.

 

A TIME TO LAUGH… the joy and pleasure of her life were her husband, daughter, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters and their families and church family and friends.

 

A TIME TO DIE… The final call came from God to come on “Home” and take your rest, was received on June 25, 2021.

 

A TIME OF PEACE…The legacy of her life is left to a devoted daughter: Jacqueline Gist-Momin (Elder Bilal Momin) Trotwood, OH; granddaughters: Jessica Gist; Atlanta, GA & Andrea Gist; Dayton, OH, great-grandchildren; Ayanna, Malik, & Ivan; (1) sister-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and friends. (2) God daughters Lynette Pitts, Michelle Cason, (2) God grandsons Auston & Jordan Smith, special friends, and extended family. She leaves a void that cannot be filled, she leaves a legacy of love, generosity, and unselfishness for us to exemplify. Out of all the roses in the garden. God picked our best, our own “Jessie Mae”.
