Joan Evelyn Payne gained her heavenly wings on April 13, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 1, 1934 to the union of the late Thomas L. Wright and Arlean Wright. She was employed by Delco Products Division of General Motors until her retirement. She was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church until her health failed. She served on the Mother's Board for many years.
Joan is preceded in death by her sons George Payne and Gerald L. Payne, her granddaughter Larhonda D. Payne, daughter- in- law Doris Payne, Hampton, Virginia. and siblings Sallie Anderson, Jennie Bradfield, Bettie Garvin, Ronald L. Wright and a dear cousin Anita Moore.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her children, Kenneth E. Payne of Hampton, Virginia, Sharon E. Payne, Darryl A. Payne, her close sister Eleanor Stewart of Denver Colorado, brother Richard T. Wright of Dayton, and a devoted daughter-in-law Cynthia L. Payne.
She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Sharonda Smith (Jason), Birmingham, Alabama, Ericka N. Payne, Nawana Y. Waller (Carlus), Yorktown, Virginia, Kenny E. Payne, Hampton, Virginia, Gerald Marcus Payne (Jenez), St. Peters, Missouri, Glenna R. Dancy (Darryl), Jasmine E. Jones (Cecil), Lexington, Kentucky, Antonio Glass, Daryl Glass, Antonio Payne (Latoya), Atlanta. Georgia, Charlay Moore, Atlanta, Georgia, Gerald M. Payne, Atlanta, Georgia, Jessica Moore and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends including Alice Heard, Jackie Montgomery, and Louise Battle.
