John K. Oliver Obituary

John K. Oliver died peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, blessed to reach the age of 92. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 16, 1930, to the late Dallas and Elizabeth Oliver.

In addition to his parents, John is also welcomed into heaven by a daughter, Elva Marie Oliver, and siblings: Dallas, Bedford, Warren, James, Geraldine Oliver, and Patricia McCutchen.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Carmen. Quite the example of a longstanding Christian marriage, proving that a three-strand cord (God, husband, wife) is not quickly broken. He also leaves to cherish his memory his daughters: Lisa Oliver, Debra Oliver, and Jennifer (Stephen) Bush; granddaughter Charisse Bush; sister-in-law Patricia Maxine Oliver; special niece Monique Oliver; and special friends Paul Anderson and Palmer Townes.

John was always a hard worker to support his family. He devoted 33 years employed at Dayton Press (formerly McCall’s), working in logistics support. He loaded, unloaded, moved, and delivered a variety of goods in the warehouse. During those years, John served as Vice President of Dayton Paper Handlers Union No. 31. He later worked for RTA for 12 years.

John was an alumnus of the Dunbar High School Class of 1950. He was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church. Upon its closing, he attended services at the VA and supported First Wesleyan Church, as a member of their Men’s Fellowship.

John enjoyed all sports, but his love was baseball, specifically, the Cincinnati Reds! He was also a competitive bowler, loved cooking, and enjoyed gardening. John-John will be sorely missed.

John was well cared for during his illness. The family offers special thanks to the staffs of Miami Valley Hospital, Grace Brethren Village, and Hospice of Dayton.
