Johnnie Brown Obituary

Johnnie Brown, 97, entered eternal rest on May 8, 2024. Johnnie was born on September 9, 1926, an only child, to Laura Mae Chamberlain (deceased) in Carrollton, Alabama.

Johnnie served in the United States Army from 1945 until 1947 as a Portable Power Generator Operator and was stationed in Camp Beale, California and the Philippines.  While serving in the Army he received a World War II Victory Medal.  After his service in the Army, he returned to Carrollton, Alabama to enroll in a trade school with an emphasis in construction.  Through years of experience, he became a cement mason and concrete finisher.  He started his construction/cement career working for Martin Construction Company and Boyd Construction.  Later, he was self-employed performing cement finishing projects for small businesses and homeowners as well as doing work for family and people in the neighborhood.  He was a strong, hard worker and despised “lazy men '' who only wanted a paycheck, but not work hard for the money.  In fact, at age 93 he continued to do projects by adding cement blocks to his home retainer wall, with his cane nearby.

Johnnie transitioned to be with the Lord at home surrounded by his family.  He is survived by his wife Rebecca; daughters, Johnnie Mae Brown, Atlanta, GA; Jeweline Brown, (deceased), Doniece Gatliff (Bob), Vandalia, OH; Anna Ford, Trotwood, OH; and Cheryl Bradley (Eric), Dayton, OH.  He leaves eight grandchildren Antwan Ford, Dayton, OH; Monica Knight, Byram, MS; Brittney Bradley, Huber Heights, OH; Brooklyn Bradley, Dayton, OH, Narvia Brown-Tucker (Olon) Phoenix Ar., Andre Brown (Felicia), Tajuana Brown Grand Rapids MI, Kevin Brown, Grand Rapids MI; Moshown Brown Phoenix, AR, John Brown (Deceased). And a host of great-grandchildren, great great-great-grandchildren, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
