Joseph Collins Sr. Obituary

Mr. Joseph Collins Sr., known as “Six Miles”, was born in Rome, Georgia on July 8,1945 to the late Harry and Agnus Louise Holiday Collins.  He departed this life April 11,2024 at Friendship Village.


Joseph was a graduate of Main High School where he played football.  After graduation, he and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio. He was employed at St. John Transportation Company as a bus driver and later went to work for Greyhound as a driver where he became the 1st black Union Steward. His past time was going to the casino and playing bingo.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and stepson Johnnie, three brothers; Harry James, Reese and Charles Collins; two sisters, Josephine Whatley and Catherine Rucker.


Joseph leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Roderick (Angela) Twyman, Stanley (Tammy) and Joseph (Krystal) Collins Jr.; two daughters, Latasha (Anderson) Scott, and Sandra (Marc) Raye-Redmond; 14 grandchildren, Javen (Benita), Lance, Jamar, Marc Jr., Jo’Nae, Raeven, Christopher, Trevon, Camille, Trae,  Myia, Lanissa, Davon, Stacia and 6 great grandchildren; Xavier, Carter, Yu’Nari,  Zyrell, Zarealle, Zyrus; two brothers, Robert Wayne (Karla), and William (Faith) Collins; six sisters, Mae Dell Foster, Helena Jones, Ann Chapman, Brenda Posey, Blondie (John) Johnson, Alma Ruth (Horace) Morgan; sister-in-law, Rosa Collins, and  Aunt Betty.  He also has Ex wife Dorothy Phillips, Eva Twyman and Garnetta Moore. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
