Linda Starks-Burruss Obituary

Linda Starks-Burrus was born on June 27, 1954, to Ardellia and Johnnie Starks, Sr. Linda accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she participated in the Sunshine Band and the Youth Choir


Linda attended Nettie Lee Roth High School and was apart of the graduating class of 1972. She then attended Sinclair Community College where she took classes to be an Executive Secretary. After a year, she transferred to Tennessee State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education. Linda joined a lifetime sisterhood and was a proud member of the Alpha Psi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Tennessee University, where she crossed in the Fall of 1976. During her time in Alpha Psi, she was awarded the title of "Prettiest Smile" at the Inaugural Jade Awards.


While attending Tennessee State she joined the Marching Band and was initiated into the Pi Omega Pi National Business Teacher Education Honor Society.


After graduating from Tennessee State University, Linda acquired a job at PNC Bank where she worked her way up from being a Teller to Bank Manager.


Linda was an entrepreneur at heart, she was a representative of Princess House, a Mary Kay Consultant and an Insurance Broker.


After 30 years at Wachovia Bank, she returned home with her son to be a caregiver for her mother.


Linda had an immense love for reading, traveling, bowling and skating.


Linda is proceeded in death by; her son Kenny Burruss, her father Jonnie L, Starks Sr., and brother Charles Starks Sr. Linda leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Ardellia Starks; her brother, Johnny L. Starks, Jr.; and sister, Doris Starks- Jones. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church located at 3375 W. Siebenthaler Ave in Dayton, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am until 9:30 am. Doors will be closed for a private ceremony for her sorority sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. Family will receive visitors from 10:00 am-10:30 am and service will begin promptly at 10:30 am.
