Lorraine was born in Leeds, Alabama to the late Jessie and Sand Stearnes. She was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 2, 2021.
In her younger years, Lorraine was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Leeds, Alabama. Lorraine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved working in the community. She was a member of the Southwest Priority Board for 20 years. Under the leadership C.J. McLin, she broke ground for the Prison, the Pre-Release & Education Center. She was a member of Valley Grove Missionary Baptist Church, the Democratic Club, Eastern Star, President of the Ohio State Extension Program, Missionary for the Church, Presiding Judge for Voter’s Registration and a Licensed Beautician. She also loved dressing up in beautiful clothes along with matching hats.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband of 52 years Eugene Slaughter, son Hucky, grandsons Findley Mitchell, Clarence Slaughter; great-grandson Antoine Jones, granddaughter Evette Campbell, along with 26 siblings.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters: Ernestine Brown, Lorraine White (Walter Hickman), Wanda Jones, devoted daughter Rochelle (Herman) Byrd; other family members; grandchildren: Bobby (Leah) Brown, Antonia Marshall, Marcus Brown, Laquata Brown Bell, Gerald (Kristy) Ellis, Sandra Howard, Tosha Howard, Antwone (Amy) Jones, Arnita Palmer; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends, including her Highview Hills neighbors.
