Malcolm C. Fields Obituary

Malcolm Christopher Fields, born on March 17, 1985, entered into the loving arms of Jesus on November 24, 2025. A man of brilliance, sensitivity, curiosity, and spiritual depth, he carried from childhood a natural wonder about life and the world around him. His grandfather lovingly nicknamed him “George” after the little cartoon character — because even as a baby, He always wanted to explore, understand, and discover what others might overlook. His curiosity grew with him and became a defining part of who he was.

Malcolm was raised in the church.  He dedicated his Sundays to New Covenant Temple COGIC, under the pastoral leadership of his late grandfather, Elder Henry Fambro Jr., and the loving guidance of his grandmother First Lady Lillie B. Fambro. From the moment he learned to read, he and his grandfather shared a sacred Sunday morning ritual. Because Elder Fambro struggled to read well, Malcolm would sit beside him and read the Sunday School lesson aloud — slowly, carefully, lovingly. And no matter what happened during the week, Malcolm made sure he was there every single Sunday for his grandfather. And when the the preaching came, he would play behind him, just like in the old sanctified churches where the Word and the music flowed as one. He never forgot the love, wisdom, and strength poured into him by his grandparents. They shaped his character in ways he carried throughout his life.

A graduate of Springfield High School, Malcolm played in the band and carried a natural sensitivity to sound and rhythm. But his deepest musical expression was at the organ. When He played, he didn’t just make music — he submitted to the Power. Whether during praise and worship with his mother, and twin brother on the drums, or following Elder Fambro’s anointed lead, Malcolm was endowed with a sound and presence that shifted atmospheres. He would slip his shoe off so his foot could glide swiftly across the bottom pedals, lean back on the bench as if suspended between heaven and earth, and let his fingers dance across the keys with a grace that felt supernatural. That little church rocked on that corner while giving God the Praise.

His playing wasn’t performance — it was worship. It was intimacy. It was power. It was a dialogue between his spirit and God’s Spirit.

Having a rich spiritual depth. His life was not shaped by tradition, but by the way he lived — the way he expressed himself, and the lasting impressions he left on everyone he met. He loved freely, thought deeply, and carried an authenticity that drew people to him.

And Malcolm didn’t only love his family — he loved his people:

His boys.

His dudes.

His peeps.

The ones he grew up with, laughed with, stood with, protected, and cherished.

If you were Malcolm’s friend, you never had to guess where you stood. He made sure you knew you were seen, valued, appreciated, and held in loyalty. His friendships were covenant — chosen bonds, unspoken promises, and lifelong love.

Malcolm had a mind that explored the deeper things.  That’s where he got the name George. From the curious little monkey that entertained him while he was being chased by his grandparents… George!! He questioned. He reflected. He sought truth beyond the surface. He understood his love for Jesus in an intimate way, yet he did not feel confined by tradition but he resonated with sincerity, authenticity, and purity.  His curiosity stretched beyond boundaries; he wanted to know in the fullness — without limits or labels. In this way, he lived out the meaning of his nickname “Curious George” in the spiritual realm as well — always seeking, always learning, always growing.

His compassion was evident in the way he lived. He was a giver — of his time, his honesty, his presence, and ultimately, the gift of life itself. Through organ donation on December 1, 2025, Malcolm extended his legacy beyond this world, saving others and showing the depth of his heart.
