Malika L. Dews, age 48 of Dayton, OH was born May 18, 1977 to Alfreda Dews. She graduated from Meadowdale High School class of 1995, completed coursework and graduated from RETS Tech in the Travel & Tourism program. Malika worked for the airline industry and GE for several years prior to becoming a Customer Service Representative for Synchrony Bank where she has worked for the last 10 years.
Malika was baptized at an early age at Sunlight Baptist Church and served as a junior usher and sang in the choir.
Malika was a loving and devoted daughter, mother, Mimi, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, godmother and friend. She doted on her children and it was easy for her to plan a trip for them and her mom and follow through with it down to every detail. She wanted to make sure that they were happy and had fun on their vacations/cruises.
She was fun to be around and quite witty. If you ever read any of her call-center chronicles, you know that she had something to say to the customers who tried to disrespect her on the calls. She never hesitated to put them in their place in a way that didn’t get her written up or fired from her job, but got the point across to them.
Malika was a self-published author who had several books written under the name, “AKILAM,” which is her name spelled backwards. She was a very creative writer and collected journals which included character names and events for future books. She would sometimes jot down ideas well over into the wee hours of the night and share them with you the next day.
After a 9-month cancer journey, Malika transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord on March 23, 2026.
She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Rev. Alfred Dews. She leaves to cherish precious memories and celebrate her life; loving mother/caregiver, Alfreda Dews; two devoted children: daughter Makiah and son Isaiah Dews, grandmother Ernestine Dews, granddaughter Malayah, siblings Brittany, Kevin, Mashala, Molly and Amanda; bonus dad Joey Burnett, special friends Dwonna Dewberry Woods, Cetecia Peterson, Shannon Burke, Annie Bah, aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren and a host of other friends, coworkers and authors.
