Our beloved Martha Thomas gained her angel wings on November 5th, 2024, in Heath, Ohio.
Martha was born on March 23,1936 to her mother Lelar Lewis in Georgia. After marrying Walter Thomas Sr., they laid down roots and started their family in Dayton, Ohio. Together they had 7 children (Walter Thomas Jr, Cynthia Thomas, Jonathan Thomas (m.), Vernon Thomas, James Thomas (m.), Charlotte Robinson (m.), Arlene Thomas).
Affectionately known as "Mom", "Grandma", or "Granny" - Martha unconditionally, and unselfishly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grands. Family was paramount to her existence, and she dedicated her life to supporting them through their many accomplishments and difficulties. Her generous and altruistic spirit contributed to her mission to care for any, and all, that came to her door.
Martha served diligently for 30 years at Miami Valley Hospital as a Cafeteria Supervisor. She retired in 2002 and was applauded for her hard work and impeccable attendance; she never missed a day. Martha truly exemplified duty, discipline, and responsibility. She was a well-respected and cherished colleague.
In her free time, she enjoyed people watching, traveling bus trips, cooking (she made a mean collard greens and neckbones), rocking on the porch, movies (drama) and spending time with family and friends; especially quality time with her Grandchildren (great grands) whom she proudly doted over and spoiled every chance she got - her joy! She found humor in life's everyday moments and would often be seen giggling.
Martha was also passionate about her Christian faith. She attended Cannon Missionary Baptist Church when she could and held close to Psalm 23. She was a prayer warrior and considered it a privilege to intercede in prayer for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of godliness.
She is proceeded in death by her mother (Lelar Lewis), husband (Walter Thomas Sr.), and siblings (Zol Lewis, James Lewis, W.D. Lewis, Dempsey Lewis, Hubert Lewis, Robert Lewis, Pearl Lewis, Jannie Lewis, and Baby Lewis).
She is survived by her children (Walter Thomas Jr, Cynthia Thomas, Jonathan Thomas (m. Terri), Vernon Thomas, James Thomas (m. Luzdary), Charlotte Robinson (m.), Arlene Thomas). As well as an immense extended family. All those who were touched by her life understand that her beautiful spirit, and the imprint she left on our hearts, will forever exceed the quantity of time that she blessed us with.
