Mary Sharlotte Wortham, Age 85 departed this earthly life June 14th, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio under Hospice Care. Mary was born April 14, 1941, in Brundidge, Alabama, the second of four children born to the late, John Frank & Jeffie Pearl Jackson. She moved to Dayton at age 9 and was educated in Dayton Public Schools. She was a graduate of Wilber Wright High School, class of ‘59 where she graduated with honors. She retired in 1993 as a Supervisor for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company which later became AT&T. Mary was a dutiful and faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for over 60 years where she sang in the Mass choir, led the Food Pantry, was a member of the Senior Bible Study Class, served as Chairperson on the Women’s Day Committee, and past-President of the Missionary Society.
Mary was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was affectionately known as Mar-Sharlotte, Momma, Nanna, and Boo. She had a fondness for chicken (baked, fried, broiled, and grilled) and she loved to dance, read, travel and shop. Her love for shopping and dressing to the nines was a passion of hers that everyone noticed. She also loved to play Bid Whist with family and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her daughter, Antoinette “Bamm” Wortham; Brother, James Jackson; and Sister, Jessie Watts (Bert). She leaves to treasure her memory, her children, Patrice (Kenny) Wortham-Clark, Delisa (Randy) Hughley, and Raymond Wortham; grandchildren, Jerrel (Caitlyn) Clemmons, Brandi Hughley, Eric Hughley, and Mauri Clark; great-grandchild, Lennox Clemmons; her sister, Johnnie P. Ingram (Mel-Deceased); special cousin, Annie R. Pearson; special nieces, Shar’ron (Rodney) Watts-Shepherd and Tracy Watts; in-laws, Altonise (Oscar) Turner, Harvey (Paulette) Wortham, Glenna (Calvin-Deceased) Wortham, Frank (Primmer-Deceased) Thurmond; special friends: Ruth Lewis, Elaine Vaughn, Rebbeca Brown, Ashton McDaniels, Doris Evans and Flossie Gravely; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
It would be remiss to not mention her wonderful care providers: Billi Thornton, Billy Ward Falk, Amy Green, Crystal Mukes, Janice Arnold, Andrea Barnett, April Lovell, Mark Cottom, Tracy Martini, Judy Williams, and the staff of Care Tenders Hospice.
