Obituary

Maryam Burnett was born August 11, 1938, as Jean Williams, to Jesse Lee (Tucker) Darden and Willie Williams, Sr.  She later changed her name to Maryam. She passed away peacefully at Arbors of Delaware in Delaware, Ohio on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 after a brief illness.

Maryam was a devoted and loving mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother.  She instilled the importance of learning and achievement in her children and reinforced family values. Some of her favorite expressions were “education is something that can never be taken away”, “blood is thicker than water” and “there’s nothing like having your own.” She served as a nursing assistant at the Hospice of Dayton and at the VA Medical Center for many years before retiring.

Maryam was an avid reader, passing her thirst for knowledge on to her children. She also enjoyed time with family, canning, gardening, reading her Bible and Koran daily, cooking, sewing, the lottery, crossword puzzles, word searches, watching soap operas and wrestling, and helping her family and friends.

Maryam did not meet any strangers. She was truly loved and will be missed.
