Michael D. Sims
Michael D. Sims Obituary
Michael David Sims lived a life rooted in love, faith, and strength. He brought warmth wherever he went, touching the hearts of many with his kindness, wisdom, and sense of humor. He was strong, courageous, and gave his all in everything he did. His laughter and light will never be forgotten.
Michael was born on October 18, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was raised by Charles and Mattie Sims who shaped the man he became. From a young age, he carried a joyful spirit and a smile that could brighten any room.
He attended Dunbar High School and Sinclair Community College, and built a dedicated career as a machine technician. Outside of work, he found joy in serving as an usher at Phillips Temple, spending time with loved ones, listening to music, cars, attending events, expressing himself through fashion, and creating through do-it-yourself projects. He had a true gift for making things beautiful.
Above all, Michael was a man of faith who loved deeply. He found strength in God, and we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace, welcomed into eternal rest.
He is survived by his faithful wife, Rachel Sims; daughters, Shameika (Anthony) Barton and Chanel (Eric) Wynn; grandsons, Anthony and Amari; brother, Derrel Lindsey; stepchildren, Antonia, Shannon, Shawn, and Dawn McNary; along with additional grandchildren; aunt Peggy Lindsey; special cousins Sheila (Herschel) Jones, Shelly (Bernard) Marshall, Rosalyn (Roger) Walton, Rolanda Morehead, Rochelle Smith, LaTashia (William) Robinson, Greg McNair, Walter McNair, Port Baker, Donna (Greg) Ankeny, and Darius Jackson; best friends Sherman Cooley and Michael Banks; and many other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mothers, Mattie Sims and Virginia Lindsey; his father, Charlie Sims; aunt Dellah Roberts, his special cousins, Connie McNair and Tim Baker; his uncle, Walter McNair; his aunt, Gloria McNair; his beloved dog, Spanky; and other loved ones including siblings.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in God’s promise and in the beautiful memories Michael leaves behind. His love will remain with us always.
