Michael J. Crew Obituary

Michael Jerome Crew, affectionately known as “Crew Dawg”, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at Hospice of Dayton surrounded by family and friends.  He was 69 years old.  Born on February 2, 1955, in Dayton, Michael was a caring, insightful, knowledgeable, and brutally honest person. He had a knack for speaking his mind and fearlessly expressing what others may have been thinking but hesitated to say. Michael cherished family, friends and gatherings and was always the first to volunteer to grill or cook for a fish fry during the holidays and celebrations. He had a love for learning and eagerly shared his knowledge with others.  Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and guidance.

Michael graduated from Nettie Lee Roth High School in the class of 1973 where he played Tennis and during that time enjoyed rebuilding his ’55 Chevy.  After High School, he managed Fleenor Auto Stores in the Dayton area for many years.  He also worked in new home construction before starting his own home remodeling business.  In his leisure time, Michael was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, enjoyed bowling in bowling leagues, grilling/cooking, video games/electronics, watching movies and the Discovery channel. Recently, he had been taking online guitar courses to pursue his passion for music.

Michael is survived by his sisters, Betty McLemore, Diane Crew, Sharon Holloman (Rodney), Janice Crew; Nephews Kevin Lawson (Laronda), Lamar McLemore, Lawrence McLemore Jr. (Candace); Nieces Sharee Grandy (Marcus), Lindsay Holloman (DeJuan), Lacey Holloman, Sonya McLemore, Tonya McLemore, Sharon See; a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and relatives.  He was Stepfather to Jimmy, Joe, and Joyelle Russell (children of Kim), and Andre Choice (deceased), Juanetta Choice and Chan Tinsley (JeWan) (Children of Janet-deceased).  He is also survived by devoted friend, Belinda Wright, lifelong friends Dennis Copeland, Gregg McNair and Eddie Law, and the members of Peoples Community C.M.E. Church, where he worshipped, was a member and past President of the Trustee Board, and a member of the Men’s Ministry.
