Mildred Chatfield was born on May 30, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio to Jerry and Anna Lou Jones. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School and went on to complete cosmetology school. Mildred was a well-known and respected beautician for over 60 years, owning and operating Mildred’s Hair Weave salon. She also worked for nearly 30 years at the Department of Welfare.

Mildred was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 22, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Anna Lou Jones, brother, James Jones, sister, Anna Owens, son, Robert W. Hawes, Sr. and great-grandson, Dante Hawes. She leaves behind three sons, James L., Jr. (Vernia) and Jerry S. (LaVerne) Hawes and Elonza (Terene) Chatfield and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Hawes. She was a loving grandmother to Stacy Gibson, Valisa Hawes, Sharonda (Luke) Huggins and Andrea (Tywayne) Hawes-Eddie, Robert W. Hawes, Jr., Adrion (Trish) and Andre (Patrice) Hawes, Ronika Motley, Kahner, Kooper and Khyler Chatfield. She adored her great-grandchildren, Ephraim, Charmel and Ariel Gibson, Denizia Hawes, Aaryonne and Ryan Jackson, Nathan and Nicholas Huggins, Javan Hawes and Xian Eddie, Alyssa, Alaina, Ashlyn and Jherrica Hawes and Deshon Buycks, Andre, Jr. and Amaury Hawes and Nyla Motley. She adored her cousins, Mable Cross, Mary Ann Scott and Frank Jones, as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
