Norma Jean Thompson Obituary

Norma Jean Thompson was born on February 23, 1940, to James “Jim” Thompson and Emma Lou Taylor Thompson Finch in Nashville, Tennessee. She transitioned to her eternal home on November 12, 2021.

Jean spent her early years in Winchester, Tennessee and lived with her grandparents Calvin and Georgia Taylor during high school.  She graduated from Townsend High School in Winchester where one of her activities was playing on the basketball team.  She lived with and helped care for her grandparents until moving to Dayton, Ohio to be with family in the late 1960’s.

Jean normally stayed close to home.  She enjoyed the work she did as a nursing home assistant and took several classes at Sinclair Adult Education and obtained several different certifications in culinary arts and also with the board of education. She especially enjoyed her group sessions and travels with Day-mont and was happy to talk about things they did as a group.

Her spiritual life was important to her and you knew that on Saturdays she would be in attendance at New Life Seventh-Day Adventist Church, her church home for many years where she served as an usher and developed many friendships.

As the oldest child in a large family of very active and talkative siblings, Jean was always one of the quiet ones.  You might, on a daily basis, find her off by herself doing a crossword puzzle-one of her favorite things to do- or watching the news and discussing local, state or national issues.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents: Jim Thompson and Emma Lou Finch; stepfather: Charles Finch Sr; son Rodney “Ronnie” Thompson; and sisters: Mary Finch and Jimmie Lee Martin.  She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter: Clorinda Thompson; granddaughter: Terri Reynolds: and great granddaughter: Mariah Reynolds-Johnson (all of Dayton, OH); eight siblings: Jacqueline Farmer & Janet (Ronnie) Jackson  (Nashville, TN), Elouise Campbell (Trenton, NJ), Charlene (James R.) Greene, Vivian (Keith) Courts, Charles (Debbie) Finch (Browns Mills, NJ), Justine (Jim) Bush (Marietta, GA), Annie (James) Hughes (Charlotte, NC);  special friend Beverly Williams (Dayton, OH); Special Cousins: Andrew “Sidney” Johnson (Dayton, Ohio), Anthony “Tony (Nicola) Johnson (Chula Vista, CA)  Louvenia Hayes (Winchester, Tennessee), and  many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

“What is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”

James 4:14
