Oliver Logan III Obituary
Oliver Logan III was born on March 4, 1948, in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Logan II and Catherine Mathews; and his oldest daughter, Trona Lazette Logan, who passed away in 2017 after battling ALS.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife of 56 years, Emmerlene Logan; his children, Oliver Lydell Logan and Christina Logan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Oliver began his career with the Dayton Police Department on May 15, 1976, graduating from the Dayton Police Academy on September 9, 1976. His first assignment as a Dayton Police Officer was in the 1st District, where he served for approximately eight years. He later joined the 2nd District Task Force from 1984 to 1987, and was eventually transferred to the Dayton Police Narcotics Unit.
He spent approximately 15 years on the Dayton SWAT Team, retiring from that unit in 1990. He was then assigned to the Dayton Narcotics/Interdiction Unit, where his duties included working with U.S. Customs, the DEA, the Secret Service, the Dignitary Protection Program, and ACE.
His responsibilities extended well beyond the Dayton city limits, as he was known for his dedication, leadership, and service to the community.
After 35 years of dedicated service, Oliver retired from the Dayton Police Department. He continued to stay active by working part-time at the Victoria Theatre and the Schuster Center, where he remained for approximately 22 years.
Oliver came from a large and loving family that includes six sisters and four brothers, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
