Reverend Leamon Long, a devoted husband, father, pastor, and servant of God, peacefully transitioned from this life on April 16, 2026, after a lifetime of faith, service, and love. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Long, who stood faithfully by his side. He also leaves to cherish his memory his two sons: Sherman and Howard Long, who preceded him in death; and his beloved daughter, Carol Terry( Columbus Ohio), who survives him; along with his seven stepchildren: Leon, David, Chris(Madelyn), Timothy(Nu), Anthony (Sherrie) Haywood (Columbus, Ohio), Linda Haywood of Dayton, Ohio and Sheila Dawkins of Spartanburg, SC.
Reverend Long’s legacy extends through a vast and loving lineage of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren, many of whom are well known and cherished throughout the community. Reverend Leamon Long was born on December 16, 1931, in Carrollton, Georgia, to the late Almeda Glanton Long and Norman Long, Sr. He was the youngest of seven children. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Minnie Jewsom, Della Wood, Jimmie Stodghill and three brothers Norman Jr., George, and Grady Long Sr.
From a young age, Reverend Long had a heart for serving others and a deep love for the Lord. After graduating from high school in Carrollton, Georgia, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army. Not long after, he answered an even greater calling—his call to ministry. It was this divine calling that shaped his life’s work and led him to become Reverend Leamon Long.
Reverend Long faithfully pastored Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for 54 years, dedicating his life to building both the church and the people within it. He remained committed to preaching, teaching, and worshiping God until his health no longer allowed him to continue in active leadership.
In addition to his ministry, Reverend Long worked for the Montgomery County Sanitation Department in Dayton, Ohio, where he served diligently for over 32 years, eventually retiring as a supervisor. His strong work ethic and leadership were evident in every area of his life. Reverend Long’s life was a testimony of unwavering faith, humility, and service. He lived each day with a heart devoted to God and a commitment to uplifting others. His presence, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the family he cherished.
