Richard J. Lawrence age 79 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Saturday April 11, 2020 in Dayton, Ohio at Hospice of Dayton. He was born January 17, 1941 in, Springfield, Ohio, to the late Milton M. Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth (Palmer) Lawrence.
Richard retired from Clark County Utilities. He served and was Honorably Discharged from the Air Force. He also retired from the Air National Guard with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant.
Over the years, Richard held the following positions with the American Legion:
- Tillman H. Harpole American Legion Post 249* Past Post Commander, Post Membership Chairman
- Tillman H. Harpole Sons of American Legion Squadron 249* Past Commander
- 11th District Detachment of Indiana Sons of American Legion * Past Commander, Chaplain of Detachment of Indiana Sons of The American Legion
Richard had a passion for volunteering and sports, especially bowling, basketball and tennis. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, no matter where they were located. Richard would travel, by any means necessary, to have that special time with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his 2 daughters Yvonne Turner (Ohio) and Monica Lawrence (Indiana); stepdaughter Arria Johnson (Florida); grandchildren, Alexander Turner (Ohio), Marissa Lawrence (Texas), Alexis Turner (Ohio); great grandchild Rowen Turner; stepmother Unita Lawrence; and a host of family and friends.
