Richard Eugene Smith was born on May 31, 1945, in Dayton, Ohio to the union of Buffus and Vaddie Smith. He passed away on October 8, 2021.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents; his son Amin Jones; his brother Buffus; sisters Anna Ramsey, Helen Sampson, Willia Smith and Marcia Ludd.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife Deana and his devoted adopted children, who honored him with their love, care and presence. The love of Kurtis Wallace, Matthew Boykin, Michael Boykin (Amanda), Kimberlyn Townsend (Brian) was a ray of light; brother Robert Smith (Darlean); sisters Sarah Wilson and Earlean Bonner; dear friend Eddie Gregory; one son Mark Smith; one daughter-in-law Demetrise Hall; two daughters Sharon Davis and Aisha Myles (Antonio); 28 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and many sisters-in-law including Janice McDaniel, Jerry (Ernest) Letlow, Joyce Owens; brother-in-law Larry Jones and a host of nieces, nephews and others.
Richard attended Central State University and was a licensed funeral director, licensed embalmer, a licensed cosmetologist for both hair and nails, additionally he was a licensed masseur. Richard retired after 30 years from Inland/General Motors. He then became employed at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for 15 years, when he retired for health reasons. Richard was known throughout the funeral business because he worked assisting various funeral homes until his illness hindered him. It was nothing for Richard to work more than one job during any given day. One of Richard’s last jobs was working for Dayton Public Schools.
Funeral service will be held on October 18, 2021 at 11AM, viewing 10-11AM, at H.H. Roberts Mortuary, 38 S. Gettysburg Ave. Dayton, OH. Pastor Oddis Jones officiating with interment at Dayton National Cemetery.
