Robert G. Northern, 82, passed away on November 5, 2024, in Trotwood, Ohio.
Born on August 21, 1942, in Jackson, Tennessee, he was the tenth of eleven children to Reverend Peter T. Northern and Annie C. Merriweather-Northern. In his early years, Robert formed a close bond with his nephew, George Howard Cobb, who was close in age, and they grew up as brothers.
Robert had a distinguished career spanning over 30 years as an electrician for Dayton Power and Light, where he was known for his technical expertise and versatility. A true "Jack of all trades," Robert could repair nearly anything and took pride in his skills. His heart for service and his love for family defined him, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand.
A devout man, Robert was a faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, actively participating in the male chorus and serving as a dedicated follower of God. His commitment to service extended to his time in the Army, where he served from March 1962 to March 1965.
In 1967, Robert married Flora Harrell in Humboldt, Tennessee, and the couple later moved to Dayton, Ohio, where they raised their two sons, born of this union Rodney G. Northern and Corey D. Northern.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Flora Northern of Dayton, Ohio; his sons Rodney Northern (Beverly) of Tampa, Florida, and Corey Northern (Nicole) of Nashville, Tennessee, brothers Elder Ozell Northern of Dayton, Ohio, and Benny Northern of Jackson, Tennessee. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Peter T. Northern and Annie C. Merriweather-Northern, as well as his siblings Willie B. Gray, Otis Gray, Sarah Cobb, Harvey Gray, Ella Carroll, Andrew Northern, Janie Ruth Martin, and Annie Rowland.
Visitation will be held 10-11AM on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3801 Fairbanks Ave. Funeral Service will follow at 11AM. Interment and Military Honors at Dayton National Cemetery.
